THE 5 TYPES OF HEALTH TO BALANCE

You may not realize, but there are actually not just two or three types of health. There are five, to be exact. In most cases, we hear about the most common ones, such as physical and even emotional health. But our health also includes our social health, spiritual health, and intellectual health. Let’s take a further look at them so that you can better understand the differences and needs of various dimensions of wellness, shall we? 

Physical Health

First on the docket is physical health. What constitutes physical health? Well, are you getting enough exercise? Eating healthy? Are you getting enough sleep? These are all aspects of physical health. Physical health literally refers to how you’re treating your body overall. Are you giving it the right foods, the right exercise, and enough food to keep your metabolic rate steady? If you are doing all these things, you’re in a pretty good balance regarding physical health. But it’s not the only type of health that needs consistency. This brings us to the following kind of health: emotional health.

Emotional Health

We’re not talking about only one sex here, either. Both men and women experience emotions and, therefore, need to maintain healthy ways to deal with and express emotions. Basically, if you’re like most of us, there are no doubt some emotional stressors in your life. How do you deal with them? Do you shut down or go off? All of these things can affect your own personal emotional health. Maintaining a positive attitude in problematic times may be your default. It’s okay to feel all the feels. Happiness, sadness, anger, frustration, and all the other odds and ends to being human.

Instead, spend time with people who accept and understand you for who you are. It can be tricky. Spiritual Health

One of the biggest misconceptions by so many people is that spirituality and religion are the same thing. News flash! They’re not. Looking at the definition of religion states that it’s a particular system of worship and faith. Meaning you have a belief in a deity and so on. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. But it’s not spirituality, nor is it spiritual health-related. You can be spiritual without being religious. Spiritual health concerns yourself, your soul, and the human spirit. 

Focusing on yourself at various times throughout the day can help you maintain healthy spiritual health. Contemplation and meditation are often associated with spiritual practices because they can bring forward things that are usually tucked away in your mind. 

Intellectual Health

Our intellectual health is a final area of health that we don’t think of at all. The saying, if you don’t use it, you lose it, applies heavily to this area of health. Ideally, you want to spend time each day learning new things or even just reviewing things you’ve learned in the past. This will help keep your mind healthy and improve your overall intellectual health.
